                       The Five Elements According to the
                               Eastern Philosophies


               Traditional Oriental Medicine, always based on Yin and Yang’s
            theory, divides the elements of nature into five phases: Water, Wood,
            Fire, Earth, and Metal.

            Fig.1. The diagram of the five elements shows the transition from one
            element to the other. Thus, the steps from creation to destruction that are
            reflected in the same way in the human body. It is a constant cycle in which
            we live, a cycle of birth, growth, recognition, gathering, rest-death, and
            resurrection. The human being is continuously exposed to the influence of
