Yin and Yang in Western System
Anabolic and Catabolic Effect
The Parasympathetic (Yin) is the part of the nervous system that
dominates passivity. As Eastern philosophies might say, it is the Yin
of the autonomic nervous system. This part is mainly activated when
we eat. Now, most of the blood needs to go to the digestive organs,
i.e. from the mouth to the intestines.
The Parasympathetic part of our autonomic nervous system ensures
that our body can properly ingest and process everything so that an
“anabolic process” is started, which means a building process. The
body needs this to be able to achieve a good homeostasis (processing,
ingesting and disposing of all necessary substances).
The Parasympathetic part controls everything so that the largest
amount of blood flows to the digestive tract, a small part to the eyes
(we can see our food), a small part to our arms so that our hands can
put the food in our mouth, and a very small part of the blood to our
heart because it does not have to work so hard but must continue to
pump blood. Of course, a small part will also have to be sent to our
brain.
When the blood flows correctly, all food components go to
the corresponding places so that all parts of our body are properly
maintained and fed. If this goes well, the body is in balance, resulting
in good health. There are no obstacles in the building processes.
If this does not happen, though, the body’s defense mechanism is
triggered, and it starts expressing itself through alarms, signals such
as inflammation, complaints, pains, and the like. These expressions
of discomfort and imbalance let us know that something needs to
be done, that we must listen to these signals to take action to restore
balance (recover), back to the original condition.
