1. (Correlations detected in a quantum vacuum, as described by quantum
mechanics, emptiness is perhaps the most fundamental, but also most
mysterious state of physics. The discovery of correlations between fluctuations
in the electric field in a vacuum thus represents a breakthrough. According
to a surprising result of quantum mechanics, it is not that there is nothing
in a vacuum. Out of nowhere particles appear that subsist for a very short
period of time. But do these particles appear completely randomly or are
they correlated in space and time? Ilenea Cristina Benea-Chelmus, of the
Quantum Electronics Institute of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology,
in Zurich, and her collaborators have published in Nature a response to this
question by finding correlations between fluctuations in the electric field of a
vacuum. (4) Research and Science - Quantum optics - News. 04-28-2019)
