to bring the body back into balance. The wonders doctors can nowadays
reach with all the technology available are really amazing.
With all this, we could conclude that Integrative Medicine/
Naturopathy is the basic approach of all medicine. Could we not?
And that what we call “regular medicine” should actually be called
the alternative medicine.
As we see, the integrative medicine or Naturopathy is the basis
of all medicine. This medicine was first used by Hippocrates. When
he experienced that the capacity of the body was damaged, he used
allopathic medicine (5).
We can describe the allopathic medicine as the alternative
Hippocrates had to use when the basic integrative natural medicine
did not work, because the body could not recover by itself anymore.
It is no wonder that he has been called the “Father of Medicine”
because in his more than 70 books, (around 2400 years ago), he
scientifically described many diseases and their treatment after
detailed observation. (6)
He used both methods but never under-estimated the basic or
integrative Naturopathy. This was always his first approach.
When a health professional wants to help a person to recover from
being out of balance, he or she must always take into account all the
basic methods before using allopathic medicine or extra methods unless
this is really necessary. He must give the body and nature the chance
to find the way back. This should be her/his first goal and should be
rule number one (and, I do not get tired of saying this), because our
body and nature have all the tools, they really do.
Work together, listen to each other to reach a wonderful goal,
our balanced health state. Only then we will be able to accomplish
wonders in helping the body-mind back to balance.
Our body has its own wisdom. Nature has a lot to help us to reach
this goal as well: air, the ether, and the sun.
