Essential oils
One of the most important treatments I use and also advise in
my practice are essential oils. These oils are prepared in a special way
and cannot be used without having a good knowledge of them. Thus,
empirical, traditional knowledge and experiences form the basis of the
treatments with the essential oils. They are a nice addition to regular
medicine. In addition to the therapeutic effect of this teaching, their
psychological effect is added in Naturopathy. This means joining
together the workings of influence on soul and body. This is called
the Body-Mind approach.
Also, aromatherapy is a teaching that has been used by Egyptians
and Greeks for more than five thousand years.
I have always found the world of herbs and plants supremely
fascinating. I continually thank nature for these immense gifts it gives
us. I always consider it a privilege to be able to help people restore
Body-Soul balance with these treatments.
As described before in other chapters, everything in our world
has a polarity. Plants, herbs and essential oils are no exception.
They are also classified according to the principles of Yin and Yang
philosophy and are of course applied to restore or maintain the
balance between Yin and Yang in the body. Obviously, this requires
good knowledge.
Yang oils are warming and energizing, such as black pepper, ginger,
rosemary, and fennel.
Yin oils are cooling, calming, moisturizing and nourishing, such
as milk thistle, chicory, oats, sage and Aloe Vera.
As a general example, when we have a person who mainly shows
Yang-features; red cheeks, busy, fast, enterprising, high voice, we will
not use Yang restorative herbs, oils, or plants for this person, because
